Wednesday Lunch Dates in February

We’ve been enjoying our Wednesday Lunch Dates so we’ve been doing our best to make sure they keep happening. In February we visited a variety of places in and around Sebastopol.

The Underwood in Graton

A bit up 116, and then left down Graton Rd. the Underwood is worth the almost 10-minute drive. We arrived unfashionably early, shortly after they’d opened.

It was warmer than outside, but not by much, and the heater seemed to randomly turn off, making me wish I’d either left my coat on, or put it in my lap. We were tucked in a cozy corner at a table for two, and the waitstaff was quite attentive.

I had the Moroccan Lamb Sandwich (spicy grilled lamb sirloin, tzatziki, tomatoes, arugula, red onion, grilled flatbread, french fries — minus the tomato) and Gavin had the hot pastrami special of the day. Both were excellent.

Dessert was a lemon cheesecake with raspberry drizzle and cherries. Gavin also had a bowl of latte, I had some of the foam. The cheesecake was good, but not amazing. The latte was huge.

Hole in the Wall

Next to Starbucks in the corner, parking is terrible, food is great. This is our go-to brunch/lunch place with the kids. It is crazy busy on the weekends, and rightly so, the food is great. If you want brunch/lunch mid-week at 11:00 am, it is the place to go, there is really no where else to consider.

I had the Hole in the Wall Scramble, with house-made biscuit and potatoes. This is the only place I eat scrambles or cooked eggs. Really, everything else falls hopelessly short.

Gavin had the BLT with avocado and french fries, because, why not?

The boys had a week off school in the middle of February so we went to Monterey. We didn’t manage a child-free lunch-date, but we did eat at some pretty fantastic places. Our favorite places (bonus points, they’re kid-friendly)

Paprika Cafe – this is some of the best Mediterranean food I’ve had since leaving the cluster of Mediterranean restaurants near my parent’s place in Houston. Very reasonably priced, closed on Tuesdays.

The C Restaurant – excellent children’s menu options, excellent grown-up options! Fairly expensive, but very worth it if you want a nice dining experience (and you have kids with you). Dining room opens at 5:30, and if you’ve got kids with you, that’s the best time to go.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium – in the aquarium, excellent variety and child-friendly options. Mid-range price-wise, downside, only open for lunch.

The last Wednesday in February, we had chili dogs at home and then went to our local theater and saw Deadpool. It was awesome.
