Gavin and I hosted Thanksgiving last year for some of our friends in Boston. Nick, Elizabeth and Mike all showed up and participated in the feast. Nick liked it so much he’s coming back this year for more. Photos of Thanksgiving 2006 can be found in our Picasa web album.
With one successful Thanksgiving behind us, this year Gavin and I are hosting Thanksgiving for our families and Nick at our townhouse in Sebastopol. My parents are flying in from Houston, Gavin’s parents, sister and dog are driving up from Palo Alto, and Nick is braving the TSA and flying in from Canada (again).
With the big event a little over a week away, Gavin and I have been participating in oddly domestic activities. We’ve expanded the table, laid out place mats to figure the best way to seat eight, set out sample place settings, worked on perfecting a centerpiece, and searched the internet, and our cookbooks for the “just perfect” recipes that will be delicious.
Some of the items like the Pumpkin Cheesecake, will be made in advance (before Nick shows up), the Apple Pie with vanilla infused olive oil pie crust, cranberry-orange relish, parsley bread-crumb stuffing, gravy and sage dinner rolls will be made the day before. The orange glazed turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with lemon, and salad will all be made the day of. Yummy!
