Yesterday afternoon I had the sudden urge to have rice crispy treats. We didn’t have rice crispies, or marshmallows, easily remedied.
There are two methods of making rice crispy treats, the method on the back of the marshmallows I bought this morning called for microwaving. I’m skeptical of microwaving things like marshmallows. Butter, yes, marshmallows no.
For rice crispy treats I prefer to use the “sauce pan” method, melt the butter and marshmallows in a large pot. If you’ve got a large enough pot it’ll contain the mess, and the one I used was teflon coated so clean up was simple.
What follows is probably the simplest, most straightforward recipe known to man. Melt butter, melt marshmallows, add puffed rice cereal. Gooey, sticky, crunchy goodness.
Recipe from the Back of the Bag
italics mine1/2 cup butter or margarine
6 cups mini marshmallows
8 1/2 cups puffed rice cerealMicrowave butter in large bowl on HIGH 45 seconds or until melted. Add marshmallows toss to coat. Microwave 1-1 1/2 min. or until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended, stir after 45 seconds. Or do something similar w/a sauce pan.
Add cereal; mix well. Press firmly into greased foil-lined 9×13 pan. Cool.
Cut into 24 squares to serve. Wrap leftover squares tightly. Store in cool dry place.
